I'm lovin' it!

Isn't that a classic! We were driving to the hospital to drop by nephew off to his Dad. We knew all the kids were tired, so we decided to grab McD's on the way there. Josie started eating and I went to hand her another fry, and this was what I saw! The boys were giggling the whole 15 minute drive, Bry and I were dying laughing. When we got to the hospital, we said to Chris- LOOK AT JOSIE- He did. But didn't say anything. Then about 20 minutes later, he looked at her and said- HAS THAT FRY BEEN IN HER MOUTH THE WHOLE TIME!

Moments like this make my day!

SHE MISSES HER GAMPA!

Oh this child of mine! How she misses her Gampa! As we were heading to Kaden's soccer game, I told him that his Grandpa was going to come to his game, b/c Bry and I have to split up every Saturday between the 2 boys' games. Josie immediately piped up, "My Gampa Stevie?", I said, "Yes"... She said, "I miss my Gampa Stevie!"... You see, we lived with Grandpa Steve and all 3 kids shared a room for about 10 months. I kid you not when I say, she is a smartie. About 3 times a week, on average, Josie would sneak down, after the boys fell asleep, and sit on the couch next to Grandpa. She would lay all over him, find a pillow, he'd cover her with a blanket, and she would fall asleep. Such tender moments I will never forget! When we tell her that Grandma and Grandpa Carpenter are coming over, she lights up, and says, "My Gampa Stevie, I miss him!" (SORRY GRANDMA!)

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL, I KNOW IT'S ABOUT TIME!

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER! FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL! WHAT A BIG 3RD GRADER!
SO THANKFUL FOR THE PUBLIC SCHOOL BUS SYSTEM, EVERYDAY I AM!

DON'T ASK WHY HE WANTED TO HUG THE BRICK COLUMN, FIRST DAY OF HIS 3RD YEAR OF PRE-SCHOOL- BOY IS HE GOING TO BE THE SMARTEST KINDERGARTNER I KNOW! AND HE IS ALREADY STARTING TO READ!

SHE ABSOLUTELY LOVES HER PRE-SCHOOL! SHE WANTS TO GO EVERYDAY, AND HEAVEN KNOWS I'D LET HER. SHE LOVES HER TEACHER, HER NEW "FWENDS", AND LOVES THAT SHE NOW KNOWS HER COLORS AND IS RECOGNIZING HER LETTERS!

WHAT A STEAL OF A DEAL!

Isn't she beautiful!

Here goes my little story, and I am thankful for it! (Pride is a negative word so we've been learning in Sunday School, so I will stick with thankful and grateful!)

I had been searching for weeks (okay since we moved into our home) for a wonderful table. I didn't want to spend over $75, so I searched each day on ksl classifieds and craigslist. I got a bit frustrated b/c everyone wanted $150+ for their dining sets. And I couldn't and wouldn't spend that. So I stopped looking. I started browsing for everything but the table. After Bry and I cleared out the dining room, and decided not to use it as an office. I was on the hunt. That very next morning, I came across the ad for this table. It basically said:

Dining Table and 6 Chairs Solid Oak, $50,
Steal of a Deal

We are moving in one week and can't take it with us.

I thought I had gone to heaven! So I called up the gentlemen, told him I'd take it and I'd be by to look at it and pay him. So there you have it! You never know what treasures you will find if you keep looking! It has been awesome sitting at our "dining room table" enjoying our meals together as a family. I do have a breakfast nook, but my table that I purchased at DI ($10 and I love it!) only seats 4 and I hate not having dinner together.

I would love to stain the table darker, or paint it? ANY SUGGESTIONS WELCOME!

Updated bday photos!!!

Not quite a "Project Domestication" cake, but I did my best with what I had!

Taken the day he got his jersey, it was almost as exciting as game day!

9 candles, whew, what a tough one to blow out...
Nice shirt and church shoes from G&G Carp

Nice fleece pants and hoodie from G&G Ship!

Thank you both for coming out and having cake and ice cream with us! We sure love that you take the time to support each of our children in all of their milestones and accomplishments!

Update on Colton!

Here is my birthday boy! What a kid! I love this pix we had taken last month for Bry's family photos! I can't believe how old he looks, more like a young man! He had a fun birthday, despite being so sick! He is still home today because of his fever, hopefully it will stay down, go away, and he can get back to school, football, and all the fun stuff!

You know you are getting older when you start getting clothes, shoes, and money for your birthday! We are going to buy his bike this week, he wanted to pick it out, and since he is so tall, we were afraid we'd get the wrong size!

Anywho, that's the scoop!

Oh, the ECONOMY!

My girlfriend and I were talking the other day about the economy! (I know, can you believe it?) We are both pretty disgusted about how much food has gone up and the packaging is shrinking, gas is getting better, but it seems as though times are just tough! We were talking about odds and ends in our budgets, lack of money, going and having fun, cancelling out the diet coke runs, so I decided to post a few things I have done, that have really shrunk my budget!

  • Grocery shop only once a week or bi-monthly. Make sure you have a grocery list, a menu planned, and just in case your hubby might need ice cream one night, put that down to! I found that this eliminates going over your spending budget if you have one, you stick to a plan, and you aren't just "going shopping!"...
  • Run your errands on one day. My day is Wednesday. I know I will be going to the park to picnic with friends anyways, so I plan any errands that day. Cleaners (which I finally eliminated), odds and ends, grocery shop, library day, pretty much everything!
  • Make a menu! I know, amazing concept, huh! I make my menu on Tuesday nights, so that on Wednesday, I go do my shopping. I make sure I clean out the fridge, have the basics for baking, I don't want to have to go to the store for baking soda or cinnamon later on. We have the same menu every single week. It is not as bad as it seems. For instance, on Monday- Chicken, Rice, Vegi, and Salad. This can be stir fry, casserole, marinated... you get the point.
  • Breakfast- don't buy cereal! Yes, you heard it hear first! I have found that if we don't eat cereal, I only buy 2 gallons of milk a week for our family of 5. We rotate our breakfasts, eating oatmeal and fruit, eggs and potatoes, and then waffles/crepes/french toasts. It is a lot more work, but less expensive.
  • Create a babysitting swap! Find 3 other families who you are friends with and rotate babysitting on the weekends. Our day is Saturday from 4:30-9:30pm. We drop our kids off, whoever is babysitting all families kids that night, feeds the kids, and we have our date night! We don't have to use a sitter anymore, and now we can go out and be a couple!
  • Date Night! Plan something inexpensive and fun. I am so over going to the movies and paying full price! I know, I've changed with the times, but we've had to! We will go to the dollar show, and take our own treats (yes cheap!)... Go to the park and have a picnic, go swimming, go on a walk... There is so much to do here in Utah, for very inexpensive, you have options! If you have to have a steak, go buy 2 steaks, grill them up at home and have a cooking night!
  • Gas Stations... they will get you! Yes you have to fill up with gas, but you don't have to spend an extra $3-5 bucks on drinks and a snack. My tip: if you are a diet coke drinker like myself, keep a 12 pack at home (only buy when on sale!), and buy goodies when they are on sale. Just think, you can usually buy 4-12 packs for $11 bucks when on sale, and that would get you through at least 3 weeks (I hope!). That would save you a bundle.
  • Eating Out! Ouch on the pocket book! If I take my younger kids and myself to McD's (gross I know), I can guarantee to spend at least $12 bucks. That is on the low end. I am done doing so. On picnic days, I would get them each a happy meal and me just a coke and that was about $8 bucks. Ridiculous. Now, a sandwich, fruit, chips, and water, maybe $1.50 if that, and much more nutritious!
  • PAY CASH! I have a small pink holder with 13 different files. I take cash with me, yes even for the gas station. I take my kids out and take them in, or I send Colton in to pay! It is divided by: food, gas, clothing, activities, hair, birthdays, christmas, etc... You can divide how ever you want, but if I don't have the money, I don't buy it. It has been a hard lesson to live by, but very rewarding.
Last but not least, just simply stop spending money. Look over your budgets, see where you can cut out, or spend less. I have cut my grocery budget to under $60 a week, and we eat very well. I just saved $75 on my tmobile bill because I took off a few things we weren't using. I started shopping and buying name brands off of craigslist and ksl. I look now at garage sales, and thrift stores, amazing what you can find that you need, and not spend much for it! You will die when you see "my" new dining table, and I spent $50 on it, and that was with all 6 chairs!

Over and out!

Happy Savings!

I HAVE A 9 YEAR OLD! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!

HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY COLTON! I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU ARE 9 TODAY!
FIRST TRIP TO TEXAS TO VISIT HIS FRIENDS, TOMMY AND TREVOR! HE LOVED SWIMMING AT THEIR POOL AND PLAYING FOR A WHOLE WEEK!

HIS FAVORITE PLACE EVER! CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA BEACH! WE TRY TO MAKE THIS TRIP EVERY YEAR BE IT WITH FAMILY OR FRIENDS!

COLTON LOVES TO FISH! HE LOVES BEING ON THE BOAT, CASTING OUT, AND REELING THEM IN. HE IS JUST LIKE HIS DAD.

I will be posting more photos throughout the day of year gone by, and get more recent ones on here. Here are a few things about Colton!

  • He LOVES Football! Colton has a passion for football, it is a driving force for him. He actually enjoys going to practice early, practices hard, practices at home, and watches his highlight films all the time so he can get better!
  • He loves SCHOOL! Yes, I know, amazing! Colton loves to go to school, is a very good student, and enjoys every subject, especially READING! They don't ask much of the kids but 20 minutes of reading each day, Colton averages about 60 minutes or more a day, I am glad he enjoys it so much! He is currently reading the Harry Potter books!
  • Colton is a very friendly boy. He makes friends wherever he goes. He is considerate to others, and really enjoys people.
  • Colton has always been a very easy child. He usually does what is asked of him, listens for the most part, and has a good attitude towards life. I am thankful for him each day. I am thankful that he is an incredible example to Brian and I, and to Kaden and Josie.
  • Colton is very diligent in saying his prayers and reading his scriptures each morning. I am glad that he realizes at such a young age the importance of choosing to do right. He is a wonderful example to me!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY COLTON! I AM SO SORRY YOU HAVE BEEN SICK ALL WEEKEND AND ARE SPENDING YOUR BIRTHDAY ON THE COUCH WATCHING MOVIES...
WE LOVE YOU SO MUCH!

UPDATE LONG OVERDUE!

Hello everyone! I know I am long overdue with updating, so here are a few of our "happenings"...

  • We finally moved! YEAH! Thank you Mom and Dad for having us for so long, WE LOVE YOU BOTH!
  • Football has begun, Colt is loving it, and practicing hard!!! He loves every minute, every practice, every up-down, and every leg lift! GO SPARTANS! He is playing center, line-backer, and another position, I can't quite keep track! I am just glad I finally understand the game...
  • Kaden loves soccer! He averages 5 goals a game, loves to trash talk, and makes us laugh so hard! It has been interesting to watch him develop with soccer, considering every goal he makes the Coach either puts him at goalie (they don't even have those in Pre-K soccer!) or makes him come out for a while! He says he understands he is bigger than every other kid, but seriously, I would NEVER call the Rec and Park place to complain about a bigger kid and question his age? WHO DOES THAT?
  • Fifi is loving pre-school and helping out at home... She is a crazy fun girl, a little bossy, a little sassy, but please, when you are the only girl, who blames her! Her favorite thing right now is taking her entourage with her everywhere we go...(babies, bottles, blankies, water bottle, purse, sunglasses...it goes on!) She loves all of her new friends, and we are excited to start dance classes soon!
  • Bry is just working (I know most hubbies do!), plays basketball a few times a week, joins us for football practice, and has been helping me clear out boxes from the move!
  • Jen... obviously from my other blog, I was doing nothing prior to our move other than eating and not exercising, I am not ripping myself a new one, just stating the facts! Now I am... feeding kids, cleaning house, working out, eating better and less!!!, enjoying my own home, unloading boxes, and for the latest of my fun, I have been CANNING LIKE A MAD WOMAN! (THANKS to you Dust and Al! I am loving it!)

LIFE GOES ON WITH OR WITHOUT YOU, I've finally recognized! I feel like I am back in the swing of things and we are "living" now, trying to enjoy each moment. We are busy making a new house a home, meeting people, enjoying our new community, and finding pleasure in the things that matter most!
